(Noun) Kyrēnē (Cyrene) One of the ancient Greek philosophical schools. It lasted from about 400 BC to about 275 BC. It was founded in Cyrene, North Africa, by Aristippus. It is divided into the Early Cyrenaic School, which taught that the purpose of life is pleasure and that insight is necessary to achieve it, and the Late Cyrenaic School, which focused on the central issue of pleasure or insight.
