In the 18th century, Frederick the Great of Prussia fought three Silesian wars (1740-42, 1744-45, 1756-63) with Austria in an attempt to seize the region's resources. As a result, Lower Silesia, most of Upper Silesia, and the County of Graz became Prussian territory.
