Upper Silesia - Upper Silesia

...In the 14th century, it broke away from the rule of the Polish kings, and was then subject to the suzerainty of the Bohemian kings, and then, from 1526, the Habsburgs. In the 18th century, Frederick the Great of Prussia fought three Silesian wars (1740-42, 1744-45, 1756-63) with Austria in an attempt to seize the region's resources. As a result, Lower Silesia, most of Upper Silesia, and the County of Graz became Prussian territory. Under Frederick's rule, the region made great economic progress through inland colonization and policies to promote mining and industry, but during the French Revolution and Napoleon's conquest of the continent, large-scale uprisings occurred among weavers who were troubled by sluggish flax exports and peasants who were dissatisfied with incomplete agricultural reforms.
