Another name for p -methoxybenzoic acid. It is a colorless needle-like crystal with a melting point of 185°C and a boiling point of 275-280°C that sublimates. It is slightly soluble in cold water, easily soluble in hot water, and soluble in alcohol and chloroform. When anisaldehyde, the aromatic component in the essential oil (anise oil) obtained from aniseed fruits, is oxidized in the air, it becomes anisic acid. It is used as a retainer for fragrances and as an alkaline neutralizer for soaps. [Murai Shinji] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
