A former town in Nakakoma County in central Yamanashi Prefecture. Located in the southern part of the Kofu Basin, its southern border is the Fuefuki River. Close to Kofu City, it is popular for greenhouse cultivation of eggplants, cherry tomatoes, and other produce. In the early 1970s, the Kokubo Industrial Park was developed in the northeast of town, and the THK Kofu factory and other facilities were established there, while residential development also progressed. In 1980, the National Yamanashi Medical University opened in the Shimokawahigashi area. In February 2006, it merged with Toyotomi Village in Higashiyatsushiro County and Tatomi Town in Nakakoma County to become a city, Chuo City. Area: 8.21 km2 . Population: 9,930 (2003). 山梨県中央部,中巨摩(なかこま)郡の旧町。甲府盆地南部に位置し,南境は笛吹川。甲府市に近接し,ナス,ミニトマトなどのハウス栽培が盛ん。1970年代前半に町の北東部に国母(こくぼ)工業団地が造成され,THK甲府工場などが進出,住宅地造成も進む。1980年,下河東地区に国立山梨医科大学開校。2006年2月,東八代郡豊富村,中巨摩郡田富町と合併し市制,中央市となる。8.21km2。9930人(2003)。
