A former town in Sannohe County, southeastern Aomori Prefecture. It is located in the middle reaches of the Mabechi River, and is served by the Aoimori Railway. The southeastern and southwestern parts are low plateaus and are home to orchards, mainly of apples and cherries. Rice, tobacco, and edible chrysanthemums are also produced. 青森県南東部，三戸(さんのへ)郡の旧町。馬淵(まべち)川中流域にあり，青い森鉄道が通じる。南東部と南西部は低い台地で，リンゴ，サクランボを主とした果樹園地帯。米，タバコ，食用菊も産する。2006年１月三戸郡福地村と南部町へ編入。83.45km2。9569人（2003）。
