A town in Minamiakita County, western Akita Prefecture. The town's central Gojome is located in the Babame River basin, which flows into Lake Hachirogata. The town is rich in forest resources in the eastern mountains, and is home to a thriving lumber, furniture, and fixtures industry. Sake and cutlery are also local specialties. Rice is also cultivated. Area: 214.92 km2 . Population: 10,516 (2010).
