A district in Sakyo Ward in the northern part of Kyoto City. The area is located at the foot of Mt. Kibune (700 meters), which faces Mt. Kurama to the east across the Kibune River, upstream of the Kamo River. There is Kibune Shrine, which is listed in the Shikinaisha (Engishiki), and it has been highly revered by the Imperial Court since ancient times as the god of water. The surrounding area is lush with old cedar trees, and the Kibune River valley is suitable for refreshing leisure at any time of the year, and is especially cool in summer. Restaurants line the river in front of the Kibune Shrine torii gate, and the area is crowded with visitors who come to cool off in the summer. Kibuneguchi Station on the Eizan Electric Railway Kurama Line is located at the confluence of the Kibune River and Kurama River.
