Dhufar (English spelling)

An area facing the Arabian Sea in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. It forms the southernmost state of Oman. Its correct Arabic name is Zufar Ẓufār. Due to the influence of the monsoon, it receives 750 mm of rain in the rainy season from June to October, and is unusually lush and green for the Arabian Peninsula, producing frankincense. It is divided into three areas: the plains around the state capital Salalah, the mountainous area in the northwest, and the rocky plateau in the north. Land transportation to northern Oman is difficult, and the Dhofar independence movement intensified at one time with the support of neighboring South Yemen.

アラビア半島南部のアラビア海に面する一地域。オマーン南端の州を構成する。アラビア語で正しくはズファールẒufārとよばれる。季節風の影響で6～10月の雨季に750mmの降雨があり，アラビア半島では珍しく緑が豊かで，乳香を産する。州都サラーラSalāla周辺の平地，北西の山岳部，北方の岩石台地の三つの地区にわかれる。オマーン北部とは陸路の交通が困難で，隣接の南イエメンの支援のもとにドファール独立運動が一時激化した。
