Community medicine is considered almost synonymous with the term community health, and what they have in common is that they attempt to view medical activities as comprehensive medical care that includes all aspects of health, from prevention to rehabilitation, and in particular, they actively evaluate health activities. …地域医療の概念を最初に提唱したのは1920年のイギリスのドーソン報告であり，日本で地域医療論の端緒を開いたのは，地域医療を包括医療としてとらえ，その基盤整備の提案を行った日本医師会の地域医療検討委員会の答申(1972)である。地域医療community medicineは，地域保健community healthということばとほぼ同義にとらえられており，これらに共通するのは予防からリハビリテーションまで健康のあらゆる側面を含んだ包括的医療として医療活動をとらえようとし，とくに保健活動を積極的に評価する点である。こうした医療の再組織化が地域医療という視点からなされるようになった背景には，医療が疾病という一断面でのみ人間とかかわりをもつのではなく，その出生から死に至るライフサイクルにおいて予防からリハビリテーションまでのすべてにかかわるべきであり，そうした包括的な医療は個人だけでなく地域住民を対象として行われてはじめて効果を発揮する，という認識がある。…
