Oxalic acid (oxalic acid)

Oxalic acid (oxalic acid)
The simplest of the dicarboxylic acids with two carboxyl groups in the molecule. It is a metabolic by-product formed in the body by the oxidation of glyoxylic acid (glyoxylic acid cycle). It exists in many plants in the form of potassium salts or calcium salts, and is also found as a free acid in wood sorrel (genus Oxalis , from which the name oxalic acid comes), sorrel, and banana, so it was named by the French chemist AL Lavoisier. The Japanese name oxalic acid comes from the Chinese name for sorrel, "蓚."
