Mr. Kinoshita

Japanese: 木下氏 - きのしたうじ

A feudal lord in the early modern period. There are the Kinoshita clan, the family of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and the family of Hideyoshi's wife (Kodaiin), the Sugihara clan, which descends from the Kinoshita clan. Hideyoshi's father Yaemon was a foot soldier for Oda Nobuhide and a farmer from Nakamura, Owari. Hideyoshi served Nobunaga and took the name Kinoshita Tōkichirō, but as he rose in rank he changed his surname to Hashiba in 1573 (Tenshō 1), and then to Toyotomi in 1586. The Sugihara clan prospered as Hideyoshi's family, with Sadatsugu's daughter becoming Hideyoshi's wife (Kita no Mandokoro), and her uncle Ietsugu serving Hideyoshi and becoming lord of Fukuchiyama Castle in Tanba. His older brother Iesada was a close attendant to Hideyoshi, changed his surname to Kinoshita, and was lord of Himeji Castle in Harima, and was transferred to Ashimori in Bitchu after the Battle of Sekigahara.

近世大名。豊臣秀吉の生家木下氏と秀吉の妻(高台院)の実家杉原氏流木下氏がある。秀吉の父弥右衛門は織田信秀の足軽で尾張中村の百姓。秀吉は信長に仕え木下藤吉郎と名のるが，出世に伴い1573年(天正1)羽柴氏に，さらに86年豊臣氏に改姓した。杉原氏は定利の女が秀吉の妻(北政所)となり，秀吉の一族として繁栄，北政所の伯父家次は秀吉に仕え丹波福知山城主となった。兄家定は秀吉に近侍し木下姓に改めて播磨姫路城主，関ヶ原の戦後備中足守（あしもり）に移封された。
