Japanese: キヌバネドリ(絹羽鳥) - キヌバネドリ（英語表記）trogon

A general term for birds belonging to the order Trogonidae (family Trogonidae). This family includes about 34 species of beautiful birds in 8 genera, distributed in Africa (3 species), tropical Asia (11 species), Central and South America, and the West Indies (20 species). Overall length is 23-37cm. However, male quetzals (illustration) can exceed 1m in overall length including ornamental feathers. Most species have metallic green or blue dorsa and red, pink, or yellow undersides below the breast. This flashy plumage actually provides excellent camouflage, making birds of this family extremely difficult to find.

キヌバネドリ目キヌバネドリ科Trogonidaeに属する鳥の総称。この科は約8属34種の非常に美麗な鳥を含み，アフリカ(3種)，熱帯アジア(11種)，中央･南アメリカおよび西インド諸島(20種)に分布する。全長23～37cm。ただし，ケツァール（イラスト）の雄は飾羽も含めると全長1mを超えるものがある。大部分の種は背面が金属緑色や金属青色で，胸以下の下面は赤やピンクや黄などである。このはでな羽色は，実際にはすぐれた隠ぺい色の効果をもっていて，この科の鳥はきわめて見つけにくい。
