An annual plant of the legume family cultivated for its edible seeds (beans) or for sprouting to make sprouts. Also called Bundo, Mung Bean, and Ao Azuki. Similar to adzuki beans, it grows to a height of 60-130cm. The leaves have three leaflets and long petioles. A stalk grows from the base of the leaf, and 8-20 flowers grow on it. They are about 10mm wide and 6mm long. The pods are 5-12cm long and 5-6mm wide, and ripen to a black or dark brown color. They contain 10-15 beans. 子実(豆)を食用としたり,発芽させて〈もやし〉野菜とするために栽培されるマメ科の一年草。ブンドウ,ヤエナリ,アオアズキなどとも呼ばれる。アズキに似て草丈60~130cm。葉は3枚の小葉からなり葉柄は長い。葉のつけ根から柄が伸び,8~20の花がつく。幅10mm,縦6mmほど。莢(さや)は5~12cm,幅5~6mmで,黒色または濃褐色に熟す。中に10~15の豆が入る。豆は長さ4~6mm,鮮緑色のほか黒褐色,黄金色などがある。
