Kannon - Kannon
(A translation of Avalokiteśvara. Short for "Kanzeon (Kannon)". A synonym of "Kanon") [1] Buddhist term. One of the bodhisattvas. It is said that when he hears the sounds of the world's sentient beings chanting his name, he is filled with great compassion and leads them to attain liberation. He is also one of the attendants of Amida Tathagata along with Bodhisattva Seishi. While Seishi usually wears a jeweled vase in his crown, Avalokiteśvara wears a transformed Buddha. He is the most widely worshipped of all bodhisattvas. Depending on the shape, he is called Shokannon, Senjukannon, Juichimenkannon, Acalanathakannon, Batokannon, Nyoirinkannon, and so on, but he is usually called Shokannon.
