Japanese: ドバト(土鳩∥鴿) - ドバト（英語表記）domestic dove

A general term for pigeons that have been bred and improved (illustration). Its ancestor is said to be the rock dove C. livia (English name: rock dove) of the family Columbiformes. Rock doves are found along the Mediterranean coast, West Africa, Arabia, West Asia, India, and northern China, and live on rocky mountains and coastal cliffs. Their bodies are gray-blue with a shiny greenish-purple neck, a whitish back, and two black bands on the wings. Pigeons were bred in Egypt around 3000 BCE, and also in ancient India, China, Greece, and Rome.

飼育改良されたハトの総称（イラスト）。祖先はハト目ハト科のカワラバトC.livia(河原鳩。英名rock dove)といわれている。カワラバトは地中海沿岸，西アフリカ，アラビア，西アジア，インド，中国北部などに分布し，岩山や海岸の崖などにすむ。体は灰青色で，くびに緑紫色の光沢があり，背は白っぽく，翼には2本の黒帯がある。　ハトの飼育は前3000年ころのエジプトですでに行われていたが，古代のインドや中国，ギリシア，ローマでも行われていた。
