Also called Tsunenaga Kyoki, this is the diary of Yoshida (Fujiwara) Tsunenaga (1239-1309). The title comes from the diary of Tsunenaga's great-grandfather, Yoshida Tsunefusa, called Kikki. The original has been lost, and copies have been passed down intermittently from 1267 (Bun'ei 4) to 1302 (Kengen 1). Tsunenaga was highly trusted by both retired emperors Kameyama and Go-Uda, and was a key figure in the court government. He also handled various negotiations between the court and the bakufu. Kikki is a fundamental source for the political history of the late Kamakura period. It contains detailed articles on issues surrounding the alternation of the line of succession between the two emperors, prayers against a Mongol invasion, and defensive measures. Included in the Shiryo Taisei. [Hiromi Tanaka] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
