White-bellied black woodpecker (Kitataki)

Japanese: キタタキ(木啄) - キタタキ（英語表記）white‐bellied black woodpecker

A bird of the woodpecker family, Picidae. Total length is about 46 cm. It is a large black woodpecker similar to the black woodpecker, but its belly, sides, and rump are white. The male has a bright red top and jaw line. The female has no red parts at all. It is found in southwestern China, South Asia, the Greater Sunda Islands, the Philippines, etc., and also in East Asia, from the center of the Korean Peninsula southward and Tsushima Island in Nagasaki Prefecture. In Southeast Asia, it lives in virgin forests of broadleaf trees and mangrove forests, and in the Korean Peninsula and Tsushima Island, it lives in coniferous forests and virgin forests of a mixture of broadleaf and coniferous trees.
