Rebate. A rebate is a payment made to the payer that is equivalent to a portion of the amount of the payment or interest, or the money returned. A discount is a reduction in the amount of the payment itself, and a rebate is given separately from the payment. Rebates are often given to regular customers when transactions with regular customers exceed a certain amount, or when the customer makes special sales efforts or provides sales services. Rebates are not only given in the sale and purchase of goods, but also in service industries such as sea, land, and air transportation and insurance. Rebate rates (rebate rates) are generally determined by custom or the cost benefits that the customer brings to the payer. Rebates can be used for undesirable financial or accounting manipulation, and are therefore prohibited by law in some cases.
