Empress of Emperor Kinmei in the second half of the 6th century. Date of birth and death unknown. Daughter of Soga no Iname. Along with her full sister Onikimi, she became the emperor's empress, and gave birth to many sons and daughters, playing a major role in establishing the Soga clan's position as the family's maternal relatives. She gave birth to a total of seven sons and six daughters, including Prince Sakurai, who became the maternal grandfather of Emperors Yomei, Suiko, and Kogyoku; Princess Iwakuma, who was relieved of her duties as attendant at Ise because she was married to her half-brother Prince Ibaraki; and Princess Toneri, who became the wife of Emperor Yomei's son Prince Taima. In 612 (the 20th year of the reign of Suiko), she was reburied at Emperor Kinmei's Hinokuma Sakago Mausoleum. [Katsuura Reiko] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
