〘Noun〙① Buddhist term. Seven kinds of precious stones. In the Muryoju Sutra, they refer to gold, silver, lapis lazuli , crystal , agate , coral, and agate , while in the Lotus Sutra they refer to gold, silver, lapis lazuli, agate, pearl, and rose. しっ‐ぽう【七宝】

〘名〙① ＝しちほう（七宝）①※謡曲・葵上（1435頃）「七宝の露を払ひし篠懸(すずかけ)に、不浄を隔つる忍辱(にんにく)の袈裟(けさ)」② 「しっぽうやき（七宝焼）」の略。※東京横浜毎日新聞‐明治一三年（1880）四月六日「後藤省三郎氏は、七宝製造のことに就き」③ 「しっぽうつなぎ（七宝繋）」の略。※風俗画報‐一一二号（1896）流行門「お納戸に山形、黒に破れ格子と七宝(シッポウ)、紅掛に七宝と夏菊、紫紺に違ひ絣」④ 紋所の名。七宝繋(しっぽうつなぎ)を図案化したもの。七宝、星つき七宝、七宝に花菱、大岡七宝などがある。
