Kingdom of Arada

Kingdom of Arada

...It flourished from the beginning of the 17th century through slave trade and military power, and was destroyed by France in 1894. In the early 17th century, three brothers fought for the throne in the Kingdom of Allada, located near the Gulf of Guinea. One of them, Do Akrin, escaped and founded the Kingdom of Abomey in present-day Abomey, which became the forerunner of the Kingdom of Dahomey. In the late 17th century, the name was changed to Dahomey under King Wegbaja.
