Also known as the Central Alps. A mountain range in southern Nagano Prefecture, sandwiched between the Kiso Valley and the Ina Basin. It is about 100 km north to south and 20 km east to west. The mountain range is made up of granite, sandstone, limestone, etc., and has more than 20 high peaks over 2500 m, including the main peak, Mt. Komagatake. The mountain range was formed by continuous uplift, and there are several stepped faults. It rises steeply from the valleys on the east and west, and the climbing trails are rough. There is glacial landform around 2700 m. The highways that cross the mountain range are National Route 256 in the south and National Route 361, which crosses the Gonbe Pass in the north, as well as the Chuo Expressway, which crosses the mountain range through the Ena Mountain Tunnel (8489 m down, 8649 m up). Large and small complex alluvial fans are formed in the foothills of the Ina Basin on the east side. Part of it belongs to the Central Alps Prefectural Natural Park.
