Gas Phase Polymerization - Kisoujugo

Japanese: 気相重合 - キソウジュウゴウ

This refers to a polymerization reaction carried out while the monomers are in the gas phase to synthesize polymeric compounds from the raw monomers. The polymerization initiator or catalyst is suspended in the gas phase by fluidizing the reaction system. The resulting polymer is obtained in the form of a fine powder. The advantage of this method is that no solvent or water is used for the reaction, so no equipment is required for separation or recovery. It is partially used in the manufacture of polyethylene. 高分子化合物を原料のモノマー(単量体)から合成するのに，そのモノマーが気相の状態で行う重合反応をいう。重合開始剤あるいは触媒は反応系を流動状態にして気相に懸濁させる。生成する高分子(ポリマー)は微粉状で得られる。反応のために溶媒や水を使わないので，その分離や回収のための装置が不要となる点がこの方法の利点である。ポリエチレンの製造に一部行われている。【井上祥平】
