Japanese: アンビル（英語表記）anvil

Originally the term meant an anvil, but in ultra-high pressure apparatus it refers to a cone-shaped base with a significantly smaller top. The base area is made larger to withstand the load, and axial pressure is applied to the significantly smaller top surface. The ultra-high pressure apparatus invented by P. Bridgman has opposing anvils (opposed pressure table), which can generate 10,000 atmospheres, the highest pressure of any static pressurization method.

もともとは鉄床 (かなとこ) の意味であるが，超高圧発生装置では，頭部を著しく小さくした円錐形の台座をいう。底面積を大きくして荷重に耐えるようにし，著しく小さい頂面に軸方向の圧力を加える。 P.ブリッジマンが発明した超高圧発生装置はアンビルを対向させたもの (対向圧力台) で，1万気圧を生じ，静的な加圧方式としては最高の圧力を与えることができる。
