The former area of Ainan Town, located at the southern tip of Ehime Prefecture. Facing Sukumo Bay, it occupies the Sozu River basin. It was incorporated as a town in 1923. It merged with Midori Sozu Village in 1952, and Higashi Sotoumi Town in 1956. In 2004, it merged with Uchiumi Village and three towns, Mishou Town, Ipponmatsu Town, and Nishiumi Town, to form Ainan Town. The central settlement, Gusukube, developed as a castle town after the castle was built on Tokiwayama during the Sengoku period. There are many mountains. The climate is oceanic and warm. In addition to rice, fruit is cultivated. Fukaura Port is a fishing port known for bonito fishing and also serves as a refuge port (→ Fukaura). Tenjo-hana is a scenic spot that belongs to the Uwakai Marine Park District, and together with the area around Kurosaki-hana, it belongs to Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park. The surrounding area is famous for coral and tropical fish on the seabed, and is also famous for rock fishing.

Gusukube Castle

This is a former town area in the southeast of Miyakojima City, in the western part of Okinawa Prefecture. It is located in the southeast of Miyakojima. It was incorporated as a town in 1947. In 2005, it was merged with Hirara City, Shimoji Town, Ueno Village, and Irabu Town to form Miyakojima City. The former town name comes from the name of a Magiri (administrative division) that has existed since the early modern period. Most of the residents are sugarcane farmers, but beef cattle are also thriving. There is a sugar factory. There are many tourist attractions, such as the Uibiyayama Ruins, Muiga Cliffs, and Cape Higashi Hennazaki, a nationally designated place of scenic beauty.

愛媛県南端，愛南町の旧町域。宿毛湾に面し，僧都川流域を占める。1923年町制。1952年緑僧都村と，さらに 1956年東外海町と合体。2004年内海村，および御荘町，一本松町，西海町の 3町と合体し，愛南町となる。中心集落の城辺は，戦国時代に常盤山に城が置かれてから，その城下町として発達。山地が多い。海洋性気候で，温暖な気候に恵まれている。米作のほか果樹栽培が行なわれる。深浦港はカツオ漁で知られる漁港で，避難港の役割も果たす（→深浦）。天嶬鼻は宇和海海域公園地区に属する景勝地で，黒崎鼻付近一帯とともに足摺宇和海国立公園に属する。付近は，海底にサンゴ類や熱帯魚が見られ，磯釣りでも有名。

城辺
ぐすくべ

沖縄県西部，宮古島市南東部の旧町域。宮古島の南東部にある。1947年町制。2005年平良市，下地町，上野村，伊良部町と合体して宮古島市となる。旧町名は近世以来の間切（まぎり。行政区画）名に由来。大半はサトウキビ栽培農家だが，肉牛飼育も盛ん。製糖工場がある。上比屋山遺跡（ういぴゃーやまいせき），ムイガー断崖，国指定名勝の東平安名崎（ひがしへんなざき）など観光資源が多い。
