Hyde Park

Japanese: ハイド･パーク（英語表記）Hyde Park

A park in London, England. Its total area is 361 acres (146 ha), but it is a large park of over 600 acres (243 ha) that is connected to Kensington Gardens (the gardens of Kensington Palace, which contains the memorial to Prince Albert) on the west side, separated by a long, curved pond called the Serpentine. It originally belonged to Westminster Abbey, but Henry VIII made it a royal hunting ground, and from the reign of Charles I it became a pleasure spot.

イギリスのロンドンにある公園。それ自体の全面積は361エーカー(146ha)だが，サーペンタインSerpentineとよばれる湾曲した細長い池を挟んで西側のケンジントン･ガーデンKensington Gardens(ケンジントン宮殿の庭園で，アルバート公の記念碑などがある)とひと続きの，600エーカー(243ha)以上の大公園となっている。本来はウェストミンスター･アベーの所領であったが，ヘンリー8世が王領の猟場とし，チャールズ1世時代から行楽地となった。
