...A 443.8 km JR Hokkaido commercial line that starts at Takikawa Station on the Hakodate Main Line and passes through Furano, Obihiro, Kushiro, and Nemuro Station. Construction began on the Kushiro side as an important trunk line within Hokkaido, with the Kushiro-Shoji section opening in July 1901 and the entire line to Obihiro in October 1905. At the time, it was called the Kushiro Line. In September 1907, the Furano-Obihiro section (Tokachi Line) opened, and with this, the Kushiro-Asahikawa section was renamed the Kushiro Line, including the Asahikawa-Furano section that had already opened. ...
