[raw]? [Died] Tensho 1 (1573). A military strategist in the late Muromachi period of Yagyu in Yamato. His name was Hidetsuna, later Nobutsuna. He served Nagano Narimori, lord of Minowa Castle in Kozuke, and learned the Aisu Kage-ryu sword and spear style, and founded the Shinkage-ryu style. After Narimori's death in February 1563, he served Takeda Shingen, but set out on a journey around the country to study swordsmanship. His students included Yagyu Munenori, Hikita Bungorou, and Kamiato Izunokami, all of whom formed their own schools. In particular, when Yagyu Munenori's Shinkage-ryu style became powerful under the protection of the Edo Shogunate under his son Munenori, Kamiizumi Ise-no-kami was revered as a sword saint and came to be known as the father of modern martial arts.
