… The genus Adiantum is common in tropical and warm temperate regions, and some species are summer-green like the peacock fern and grow in temperate regions. Among the wild species that have been introduced as horticultural varieties are A. hispidulum Sw. in the Old World tropics, A. caudatum L. in Southeast Asia, India, and the Himalayas (illustration), A. cuneatum Langsd.et Fisch. in Brazil, A. trapeziforme L. in tropical America, and A. macrophyllum Sw. in the American continent. The most widely cultivated varieties are those that have been improved upon, mainly from the ferns of the genus Caprifoliaceae, and come in a variety of varieties, including those with very fine leaflets (cv. Gracillinum, cv. Micropinnulum, cv. Microphyllum, etc.), those with vivid white or pink spots on the leaflets (cv. Variegatum), and those with overlapping leaflets (cv. Pacottii) or banded leaflets (cv. Cristatum).
