Also called rotten gravel. Gravel that has been weathered so much that it can be easily broken down by hand or a shovel. It is common in the gravel that makes up high terraces throughout Japan. It is thought to be the result of repeated weathering during the many humid and warm periods that occurred in the early to middle Quaternary Period.
