Japanese: 桜井[市] - さくらい

A city in northern Nara Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1956. The central city is located in the southeastern part of the Nara Basin. In the early modern period it was a market town, and in the Meiji period, the Sakurai Line was connected to the city and it developed as a lumber distribution center. The Kintetsu Osaka Line also passes through the city. Lumber from the Uda Mountains and Yoshino region is collected and distributed, and lumber and woodworking industries have developed rapidly since World War II. Agriculture includes the cultivation of vegetables, flowers, and mandarin oranges. Miwa somen noodles, sandals, and gloves are local specialties. There are many historical sites, ancient tombs, and famous places, such as Mt. Miwa and Omiwa Shrine, Mt. Tonomine and Tanzan Shrine, Monjuin Temple and Monjuin Nishi Tomb (Special Historic Site), Chausuyama Tomb, Hasedera Temple in Hatsuse, Makimukayama, and the ruins of Yamada Temple (Special Historic Site). ^{98.91 km2} . 60,146 people (2010).

奈良県北部の市。1956年市制。中心市街は奈良盆地南東部にあり，近世は市場町，明治に桜井線が通じて木材集散地として発展。近鉄大阪線も通じる。宇陀山地，吉野地方の木材を集散し，製材・木工業などが第２次大戦後飛躍的に発展。農業は野菜・花卉(かき)・ミカン栽培。三輪そうめん，サンダル，グローブを特産。三輪山と大神(おおみわ)神社，多武峰(とうのみね)と談山神社，文殊院と文殊院西古墳（特別史跡），茶臼(ちゃうす)山古墳，初瀬(はせ)の長谷寺，巻向山，山田寺跡（特別史跡）など史跡，古墳，名所が多い。98.91km²。６万146人（2010）。
