Kugu (English spelling) Cyperus cyperoides

A perennial plant of the Cyperaceae family. It is also called Inukugu. It grows naturally in moist grasslands in warm areas such as Western Japan and the Izu Islands. The stems are 30-80 cm tall, and the leaves are thin and grow on the base. From summer to autumn, the stems bear several to several dozen cylindrical pale green flower spikes at the top, and four to five leaf-like bracts on the outside. カヤツリグサ科の多年草。イヌクグともいう。西日本や伊豆七島など暖地の湿った草地に自生する。茎は高さ 30～80cm，葉は細く根生する。夏から秋に，茎頂に数個から数十個の円柱形で淡緑色の花穂をつけ，その外側に4～5個の葉状の包葉をつける。
