Chrysoberyl (English spelling)

Chrysoberyl (English spelling)

It is an oxide mineral. It is also one of the gem minerals. It is also called chrysoberyl (abbreviated as chryso). The one that shows different colors in sunlight and incandescent light is called alexandrite. It has the same structure as olivine group minerals. It is believed that the small amount of titanium (Ti) contained in it is due to the inclusion of minute rutile. Its euhedral shape is a plate with an outline close to a hexagon, or a complex hexagonal truncated pyramid or a pentagonal plate with a sharp edge due to twinning. It is found in granitic pegmatite and biotite schist, and coexists with quartz, feldspar, muscovite, beryl, and iron-aluminum garnet. In Japan, it is found in Uzumine, Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture, and Ishikawa Town, Fukushima Prefecture. The origin of the English name comes from the Greek word for "golden beryl." Cat's eye is a type of chrysoberyl that exhibits star rays (also called light rays; shining streaks running in straight lines in two directions).
