This copper mine was located in the basin of the Yoji River, a tributary of the Kumano River, in southern Mie Prefecture. Development began during the Keicho era (1596-1615) along with the nearby Muroya, Togusuri, and Ogurusu copper mines, and it was managed by the Wakayama and Shingu domains. It was later acquired by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha and became known as the Kishu Mine. In the past, ore was transported by hand to the mouth of the Yoji River, and then shipped to Shingu by water on the Kumano River. After the cableway was built in 1941, the ore was sent by freight car from Atawa Station to Uragami Port, and then transported by ship to Shisakajima and Saganoseki for refining, but the mine closed in May 1978.
