Guizhou [province]

Japanese: 貴州[省] - きしゅう
Guizhou [province]
A province in southwest China. Its capital is Guiyang. The terrain is high in the west and low in the east, with elevations ranging from 1,600 to 500m, and is hilly with fast-flowing rivers, making transportation inconvenient except along the main roads. Modern industry has developed in Guiyang, taking advantage of the province's abundant mineral resources, including tung oil, lacquer, white wax, tussah silk, medicinal materials, mercury, aluminum, iron (Zunyi), coal, and gold. The inhabitants are Han Chinese as well as other ethnic minorities such as the Miao, Buyi, and Dong. The Kingdom of Yelang, famous for the story of "Yelang's Greatness," was located within present-day Guizhou Province. Area: 176,100 km2 . Population: 41.34 million (2014).
