A large tributary of the Amur River in eastern Russia and northeastern China. It is 1,520 km long and has a drainage area of 169,700 km2. It first arises on the western slope of the Greater Khingan Range in China and is called the Hailar River. It flows west, crosses the northern outskirts of Hailar, turns sharply northeast east of Manchuria, cuts deeply into a tributary of the Greater Khingan Range again, and joins the Shilka River on the left bank to form the main Amur River. The approximately 950 km stretch from the bend east of Manchuria to the confluence with the Shilka forms the border between China and Russia.

ロシア連邦東部，中国東北部にあるアムール川の大支流。長さ1520km，流域面積16万9700km2。はじめ中国領内の大興安嶺西斜面におこり，ハイラル川(海拉爾河)と呼ばれ，西流してハイラル市北郊をよぎってマンチュリー(満洲里)東方で大きく北東に湾曲，ふたたび大興安嶺の支脈を深く下刻して流れ，左岸からシルカ川をあわせてアムール川本流となる。マンチュリー東方の湾曲部からシルカ川合流点までの約950kmは中国とロシアとの国境を形づくる。
