Metal complexes

...Complexes that cannot be explained by Werner's coordination theory are called non-Werner complexes. When the central atom is limited to a metal in the definition of a complex, the resulting complex is sometimes called a metal complex. If no restrictions are placed on the central atom, CH ₄ and H ₂ O can also form complexes, which can be problematic, but it is convenient for unifying the shapes of inorganic compounds that contain [BF ₄ ] ^- and [PF ₆ ] ^- .
