Stone pillars

〘Noun〙 A type of stone building. It consists of a hexagonal or octagonal pillar body, a niche, a roof , a jewel, etc. Many Chinese ones have a complex structure, but in Japan, it is common for the fire box of a stone lantern to be used as a niche for the Buddha, and there are even simpler ones. Many are relics from the Middle Ages. 〘名〙 石造建築物の一つ。六角柱または八角柱の幢身と龕(がん)部・笠・宝珠などから成る。中国のものは複雑な構成のものが多いが、日本では石灯籠の火袋(ひぶくろ)のところが仏龕になった形のものが一般的で、さらに簡略なものもある。中世の遺物が多い。〔盧綸‐酬暢当嵩山尋麻道士見寄〕
