Kiyotaki Town

...After World War II, hotels and ski resorts were requisitioned as rest facilities for the US military, and this led to the town developing into an international tourist city. Kiyotaki-cho, located at the confluence of the Otani River and the Atarazawa River, is home to the Ashio Mine, which is connected to the town by Hosoo Pass, and the Furukawa Electric Nikko Copper Refinery and Furukawa Aluminum, both of which were established using hydroelectric power from the Otani River system. Nikko is a tourist city, with tertiary industry accounting for 65% (1990) of the employment rate by industry, and also an industrial city, with secondary industry accounting for 32%, mainly metal industry, but it has been in a slump in recent years due to the closure of the Ashio Mine in 1973. ...
