Japanese: 家政 - かせい（英語表記）house hold; house economy

Managing and governing the various matters related to a family's life. In modern Japan, this is often thought of as the job of a housewife, but under the old civil code, this was the responsibility of the head of the household (male). The Greek word oikonomos, which means housekeeping, is a combination of the words for house and order, and is the origin of the word economy. As such, housekeeping differs depending on the various types of households, such as ethnicity, class, and era, and the search for new ways of doing housekeeping can be said to be a global issue, not just a matter of life studies.
