Amir of the Buyid dynasty. Reigned 949-983. His name was a title bestowed by the caliph, meaning "helper of the dynasty." He ruled Iraq, Fars, and Kirman, and brought the dynasty to its peak. He advocated the Twelver Imam sect, and was the first in the Islamic world to call himself Shahanshah (King of Kings). He had coins minted in Pahlavi, a Middle Persian language, and emphasized his connection with the Iranian traditions dating back to the Sassanid dynasty. He was also known as a patron of scholarship and the arts, and produced such historians as Miskawayh.

ブワイフ朝の君主，アミール。在位949‐983年。名はカリフから授与された称号で，〈王朝の補助者〉の意。イラク，ファールス，キルマーンを支配し，同朝の最盛期を現出させた。十二イマーム派を標榜し，イスラム世界でははじめてシャーハンシャー(王中の王)を名のり，中世ペルシア語のパフラビー語のコインを鋳造させ，ササン朝以来のイラン的伝統との結びつきを強調した。学問･芸術の保護者としても知られ，歴史家ミスカワイフなどが輩出した。
