...A national comprehensive university affiliated with the former Imperial University system, with its headquarters in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. After the Imperial University was founded in Tokyo, plans and movements to establish a university in Kansai continued, and in 1897, Kyoto Imperial University was founded, consisting of four schools: Law, Medicine, Letters, and Science and Engineering (the first president was Kinoshita Hiroji), with the School of Science and Technology being opened first. In 1899, the School of Law and the School of Medicine were opened, and in 1906, the School of Letters, and in 1914, the School of Science and Technology was divided into the School of Science and the School of Engineering. ...
