The capital of Ethiopia. The estimated population was about 500,000 in 1965, 1.4 million in 1984, and 2.32 million in 1994. Located almost in the center of the Ethiopian plateau, at an altitude of 2,400 meters, the city experiences a warm or cool climate throughout the year, despite its closeness to the equator. The city is called "the place with the best climate in the world" and "13 months of sunshine" because the Ethiopian calendar has 13 months. From Mount Entoto on the outskirts, a group of modern buildings can be seen standing out against the greenery of eucalyptus trees, but originally the Ethiopian capital was a temporary presence, moving in search of coniferous forests for fuel.
