Kyoto Chiyogami

Japanese:
Kyoto Chiyogami
Kyochiyogami is chiyogami paper made in Kyoto. Chiyogami paper was originally ehosho paper (for congratulatory letters) used as gift wrapping paper, and was then mass-produced when it was combined with woodblock printing techniques. In the Edo period, traditional patterns of the aristocracy (yusoku patterns) were mainstream, but as demand from townspeople increased, patterns associated with the climate and events of Kyoto began to appear more frequently. Kyochiyogami is characterized by its subdued designs and colors.
