Coagulation - Gyoseki

When an electrolyte is added to a hydrophobic sol, colloidal particles aggregate to form larger particles, which then precipitate and settle out. This phenomenon is also called coagulation. This is because the charge on the colloidal particles is neutralized by electrolyte ions with the opposite sign, making them more likely to clump together, and the minimum concentration of electrolyte required to cause coagulation within a certain period of time is lower the greater the ion's charge. 疎水ゾルに電解質を加えたとき，コロイド粒子が集合して大粒子となり析出沈殿する現象．凝結ともいう．コロイド粒子のもつ電荷が反対符号をもつ電解質イオンによって中和され凝集しやすくなるためであり，一定時間内に凝析を起こすのに必要な電解質の最低濃度は，イオンの電荷が大きいほど低い．広義には親水ゾルの凝固も凝析という．[別用語参照]シュルツ-ハーディの法則
