…Italian painter. His real name was Orazio Lomi. He was from Pisa in the Tuscan region and had a Mannerist education, but was influenced by Caravaggio's style in Rome and created the most artistically advanced chiaroscuro style among Caravaggioist painters. He went to France and then lived in London with his daughter, the female painter Artemisia Gentileschi (1597-1652/53), and introduced the Caravaggio style, with its strong chiaroscuro effects, to those countries. …
