A book written by Oya Toru. Published in 1909. One of the results of the National Language Research Committee's research into the history of the Japanese language, this book selects 50 types of old reading-based texts of Buddhist scriptures and Chinese books from the early Heian period to the Muromachi period, copies parts of them to show the actual reading-based texts, lists the kana characters found in the documents, collects examples of old readings, and notes whether the kana spelling is correct or not. At the end of the book, there is a chronological list of the katakana characters used in the reading-based texts of over 110 types of old reading-based texts from the early Heian period onwards. It allows you to see at a glance how the style of katakana characters has changed and how the style gradually unified from a variety of different kana forms.
