Japanese: 斜面風 - しゃめんふう（英語表記）slope wind

During the day, the temperature of south-facing slopes rises due to solar radiation, and the temperature of the air in contact with them also rises. This results in air currents that rise along the mountain slopes. These winds that blow up from the valleys are called valley winds or anabatic winds. At night, on the other hand, the mountain slopes cool down due to radiation cooling, so the temperature in contact with them also drops compared to other places, and the cold air flows down the mountain slopes due to gravity. These winds that blow down from the mountain peaks are called mountain winds or katabatic winds.

南向きの斜面では，日中は日射を受けて斜面は他より温度が高くなり，それに接する空気の温度も高くなる。したがって山の斜面に沿って上昇する気流が生じる。谷から吹き上げるこの風を谷風またはアナバティック風anabatic windsと呼ぶ。一方，夜間になると山の斜面は放射冷却によって冷えるので，それに接する気温も他所より下がり，冷たい空気が重力によって山の斜面に沿って流れ下りる。山頂から吹き下りるこの風を山風またはカタバティック風katabatic windsと呼ぶ。
