...The spirit of boycotting all theaters that had been established under the protection of the occupying forces during the war was replicated in 1981 when actors refused to perform in protest against the imposition of martial law, leading the authorities to disband the ZASP (The Association of Stage Actors) (1982). In the 40 years since the end of the war, the contributions of those who have built a truly Polish theatre are due to the playwrights S. Mrozek and T. Rdzewicz, the directors A. Wajda, Axel Erwin Axer (1917-92), Adam Hanuszkiewicz (1924- ), T. Kantor, J. Grotowski, the actors Gustaw Holoubek (1923- ), Jan Świderski (1916-88), Irena Eichlerówna (1908- ), Halina Mikołajska (1925-89), Aleksandra Śląska (1925-92), Tadeusz Śłomnicki (1926-1931), and others. The group included Łomnicki (1927-92), set designer J. Sajna, and others who excelled in their versatility. The mainstream of their theatrical work was the contemporary criticism of the grotesque plays of SI Witkiewicz and W. Gombrowicz (both now deceased), which they favored, and this was where the international character of the group was also found. *Some of the terminology references "Świderski, J." are listed below.
