Agglutination reaction

An antigen-antibody reaction. When cellular antigens such as bacteria or red blood cells are mixed with the corresponding immune serum, the antigens specifically aggregate and form large clumps that can be seen with the naked eye. This reaction is called agglutination, and the antibodies involved are called agglutinins, and the antigens are called agglutinogens. When red blood cells are the antigen, it is called hemagglutination. Even within the same species, there is a phenomenon in which red blood cells from other individuals can be agglutinated, and this is most evident in humans. This agglutination reaction that occurs between individuals of the same species is called isohemagglutination, and the classification of red blood cells based on this is called blood type.

抗原抗体反応の一つ。細菌や赤血球などの細胞性抗原とこれに対応する免疫血清を混合すると抗原は特異的に集合し，肉眼で識別できる大きな凝集塊となる。この反応を凝集反応といい，これに関与する抗体を凝集素 (アグルチニン) ，抗原を凝集原と呼ぶ。この反応のうち，赤血球が抗原の場合を赤血球凝集反応という。同一種属内でも，他の個体の赤血球を凝集する現象があり，ヒトの場合に最も著明である。同種の個体間に発現するこの凝集反応が同種赤血球凝集反応で，これによる赤血球の分類が血液型と呼ばれるものである。
